Winner of the 2006 Alumni Distinguished Teaching Award, the Mary McCarthy Prize in Short Fiction, the Nancy Dasher Award, the Glenna Luschei Prize for Literary Distinction, the Lawrence Foundation Award, and fellowships from the NEA and the Ohio Arts Council.
